South Twin Lake
Welcome to the the website dedicated to stopping the Iowa Department of Natural Resources from draining the natural glacial lake known as South Twin Lake located in northern Calhoun County in the state of Iowa. We are a group of concerned citizens hoping to save the natural beauty of South Twin Lake. You can contact us at: info@savesouthtwin.com .
I've included photos I took Memorial Day Weekend but unfortunately did not have a secchi disk to fully demonstrate the lakes clarity.

Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board Investigated Richard Leopold, Director of Iowa DNR. The Iowa board of ethics Investigated Richard Leopold, the Director of the Iowa DNR. Mr. Leopold's connection and membership in Ducks Unlimited created a question of "Conflict of Interest". The Investigation was completed and The Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board made a decision on April 29, 2010

On March 2, Mary Gidel and Randy Gray were invited to present our case opposing South Twin Lake's inclusion in the DNR Shallow Lakes Program to the Iowa House of Representatives Natural Resources Committee. Below is the presentation and narration as presented to the Committee.

Question: How many other state employees of the DNR are also members of Ducks Unlimited which places an unequal influence on DNR decisions favoring Ducks Unlimited's narrow agenda.

Question to be considered:
If South Twin Lake is drained, how will that affect the wells that supply water to all of North and South Twin Lake? Can the DNR/DU guarantee these wells will not be affected by the draining of South Twin Lake?
Quote by David Haggard State Chairman of Ducks Unlimited in a news item printed in the Fort Dodge Messenger on Monday September 7, 2009.
"Anything that's natural, when you destroy it, it's gone. You can maybe restore it but it's never a natural area again...." If Ducks Unlimited attempts to drain South Twin Lake to restore it in Mr. Haggard's own words it will be destroyed and it will never be natural again. Let's keep South Twin Lake as a natural glacial lake and not attempt to "restore" it making it impossible for it to ever be a natural area again.
Admission from Ducks Unlimited's Professional biologist that they are controlling the DNR's Shallow Lakes project in this letter to the editor. Evidence the DNR is NOT spear heading these projects but is just a tool of Ducks Unlimited. Click Here.

- In the public meeting on July 28, 2009. The DNR representatives stated there was no plan or agenda in place for South Twin Lake, however if you read the correspondence between Ducks Unlimited and the Iowa DNR it is obvious their plans are well underway to turn South Twin lake into a marsh.
